Adieu mes jours enfants, paradis éphémère !
Fleur que brûle déjà le regard du soleil,
Source dormeuse où rit une douce chimère,
Adieu ! L'aurore fuit. C'est l'instant du réveil !
J'ai cherché vainement à retenir tes ailes
Sur mon coeur qui battait, disant : " Voici le jour ! "
J'ai cherché vainement parmi mes jeux fidèles
A prolonger mon sort dans ton calme séjour ;
L'heure est sonnée, adieu mon printemps, fleur sauvage ;
Demain tant de bonheur sera le souvenir.
Adieu ! Voici l'été ; je redoute l'orage ;
Midi porte l'éclair, et midi va venir.

Farewell my childhood days, ephemeral paradise!
Flower, burnt already by the beating sun,
Sleepy fountain where sweet illusion laughs,
Farewell! The dawn is flying. It is time to stir!
I have sought in vain to keep your wings
Upon my beating heart that says: "Behold the day".
I have sought in vain amongst my faithful games
To delay my exit from your calm abode;
The hour has sounded, farewell my spring, wild flower;
Tomorrow, these great pleasures will be a memory.
Farewell! Behold the summer! I dread the storm;
Midday brings the lightning; and my noon will come.

Lebwohl zur Kindheit

Lebwohl Ihr Tage meiner Kindheit, flüchtiges Paradies!
Blume schon von der brennenden Sonne gebrannt,
Schläfrige Quelle, wo die süße Täuschung lacht,
Lebwohl! Die Morgendämmerung fliegt. Es ist Zeit zu erwachen.
Auf meinem schlagenden Herzen, das sagt: "siehe den Tag",
Habe ich vergeblich versucht, deine Flügel zu bewahren.
Um meinen Ausgang von deiner ruhigen Wohnung zu verschieben,
Habe ich vergeblich unter meinen beliebten Spielen gesucht.
Die Uhr hat geschlagen. Lebwohl mein Frühling, wilde Blume;
Morgen wird diese großen Vergnügungen eine Erinnerung sein.
Lebwohl! Siehe den Sommer! Ich fürchte den Sturm;
Mittag bringt den Blitzschlag; und Nachmittag wird folgen.
